What we collect, and what we don’t
Trove is built to be used anonymously. You can browse every listing and use the planning tools without an account, without signing in, and without telling us who you are. This page explains the data we do handle, in plain language.
The short version
- You can use Trove without an account.
- We never store your birthday. The Birthday Calendar works out your perks in your browser; the date never leaves your device.
- We don’t sell or rent your information to anyone.
- We don’t track you across other websites or run advertising cookies.
- We collect anonymous usage data to understand what’s working, tied to a random session id, not to you.
The Birthday Calendar and your birthday
When you enter a birthday, the calendar calculates your offers and builds your plan entirely in your browser. We do not send your birthday to our servers and we do not store it. The only thing we record is a coarse, anonymous signal of how far ahead of a birthday a search happened — for example “within a week” or “one to three months out.” That bucket tells us how people plan; it cannot be used to reconstruct a date of birth.
Anonymous usage data
To see which features help and which fall flat, we record anonymous events — pages viewed, searches run, offers kept or removed, calendars exported. Each event is tied to a random session id stored in your browser, not to your name or identity. We do not log your IP address alongside these events. We don’t put personal information in this data.
When you choose to give us something
A few features ask for information, and only when you choose to use them:
- Submitting a deal. If you send us an offer, we keep what you submit so we can verify and publish it. If you add a photo, we store that photo.
- Asking us to expand. If you ask us to come to your area, we keep the email address and area you give us so we can let you know when we do.
We use these only for the purpose you gave them. We don’t add you to unrelated mailing lists.
Cookies and local storage
We use a small amount of browser storage to make the site work: a random session id for the anonymous analytics above, and your light/dark theme choice so it sticks as you move around. These aren’t advertising cookies and they don’t follow you to other sites. Administrators of Trove sign in with a session cookie; that only applies to staff accounts, not to visitors.
Services we rely on
We use a few trusted providers to run Trove: hosting and our database, anonymous analytics, and maps for showing where a venue is. These providers process data on our behalf under their own terms. We don’t share personal information with them beyond what’s needed to provide the service, and we don’t sell data to them or anyone else.
Your choices
You can clear Trove’s browser storage at any time through your browser settings, which resets your anonymous session. If you submitted a deal or asked us to expand to your area and want that information removed, email us and we’ll take care of it.
Children
Troveis intended for adults and isn’t directed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect information from children.
Changes
If we add accounts or new features that change what we collect, we’ll update this page before that goes live and say what changed. If we ever let people save a birthday to a profile, it would be the month and day only, never the year, and only if you opt in.
